Squadron Name Change Ceremony

On Saturday April 23rd at 3:00PM, the 408th Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron held an official name change ceremony. Since its charter on February 1999, the 408th Squadron has been known as the Greater Oswego County Composite Squadron. It is based at the Oswego County Airport in Fulton New York. As a composite squadron, it is currently made up of both senior and cadet members, which totals 31 members in all. Due to the exceptional contributions of one of its former members, the squadron set out to change its name.

Capt. Frances Robert Sussey joined the squadron September 4, 1998 prior to its official charter. As a pilot and aircraft mechanic, he fit naturally into the sometimes-demanding task of both flying and managing the maintenance schedule of the squadrons’ aircraft. Not only was he a qualified search and rescue pilot, but he also oversaw the senior member training program for the squadron.

After his death in December 2003, it was decided by the members to honor his outstanding contributions to the Civil Air Patrol. So it is in his memory that the 408th will now carry the name "F.R. Sussey Composite Squadron".
